I did a short run yesterday but that’s it for me

I did a short run yesterday but that’s it for me for a few days - resting now because next weekend (18th/19th June), I’ll be taking on the longest ultramarathon challenge I’ve ever attempted - @endure24uk, the UK’s biggest 24-hour race. Most run this Berkshire event as a relay in teams, but there’s a smaller (clearly mad!) group who run it solo, and yes, I’m one of those! The idea is to run as many laps of the (hilly, off-road) 5 mile/8km course as you can in the 24 hours from midday Saturday to midday Sunday. Aaaaagh!!
I have no idea how many miles I’ll be able to do - the most I’ve ever run non-stop in one day before is 32 miles. But all I know is that I will attempt to keep running for the full 24 hours. I’m doing it to raise money for the Gloucestershire branch of @headway_uk, a cause I’ve supported for some time now in memory of my sister Deborah who, as some of you will already know, died from a brain injury a few years ago when she was just 39. As we know, many charities have suffered badly over the past couple of years along with everyone else in these tough times, so I’m hoping to raise a little awareness of what Headway does as well as a bit of cash.
I have a couple of issues which are worrying me - a problem with two joints in my left foot, which can be very painful, plus an ongoing lower back problem which has also been painful recently. But I’m committed now, so let’s just see what happens! I think it might be quite a hot day too, if the forecast is correct, which will make it doubly hard.

It’s almost five full days since my new book The

It’s almost five full days since my new book The Murder List was released, so I thought it was about time I actually posted about it properly! After work today, my husband and I popped down to a local pub for a drink, in part to raise a glass of bubbly in thanks to everyone who has bought, read and reviewed this book over the past few days. It’s now out in e-book and audiobook (paperback will be released in July) and I have been completely blown away to see it go straight into the Amazon UK top 100 the day after publication, and to hit the Amazon top 30 this weekend. It’s also already had three bestseller flags in the smaller charts: today, number one in Psychological fiction, Detective fiction and Action and Adventure fiction. This writing career has definitely been a slow burner; I had SO many rejections for my first book, and my first four books didn’t exactly set the world alight! It wasn’t until I wrote my fifth novel (The Perfect Couple, 2020) that I finally had a bestseller, and the past two years have been just amazing, with my books now published in seven languages around the world. Even so (and this is my seventh novel) I still take absolutely nothing for granted and I am so utterly thrilled that this new book has had such a great initial reaction. A book is such a huge team effort, and massive thanks as always go to my wonderful literary agent @clarehultonliteraryagency, amazing editor @kathryn.adams1, and the incredible team at @onemorechapterhc @harpercollinsuk, especially the brilliant @sarabethsbooks and @emmapetfield. An early start this morning to whizz down to London for the Spring Seasons Run along the Thames - a nice steady marathon but ooh, WARM! Treated it as a training run for my next ultramarathon in June - a good chance to see where the niggles are going to be (currently, left foot mainly!) and work out how I’m going to deal with them as I’ll be running a lot further than just marathon distance! PUBLICATION DATE CHANGE: one month to go! When I first showed you the cover of my new novel, The Murder List, recently, I said the publication date was set for Friday 3rd June. However, that’s now changed! For various reasons my lovely publisher @onemorechapterhc @harpercollinsuk will now be releasing it a few days earlier, on Tuesday 31st May (that’s the e-book and audiobook – the paperback will be coming in August as originally planned). If you’ve preordered it (thank you!), it will be popping onto your Kindle a bit earlier therefore, and in time for the big beginning of June bank holiday weekend.
